Albinism childrenAlbinism is a genetic disease. The disease is characterized by a lack of pigmentation of the skin, hair, hair, eyes, due to the absence of melanin. It can affect mammals (and therefore humans), birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles. You can put into question for ethical reasons the concept of pathology, since albinism may be considered nonpathogenic. Poor vision, consistent with the albino, is not only due to a lack of pigments that prevent the formation of a dark room as in a normal eye. Histology shows atypical retina, containing an unusually poor foveal cones. The retina is a neural tissue. Cells noble cones and rods are in contact with the RPE (retinal epithelium pigment of the retina). During embryogenesis the absence of pigment interferes with the development of cones. This is the cause of poor eyesight. The development of the visual nervous system during the fetal stage is abnormal, causing this abnormal crossing of axons at the optic chiasm leading to an abnormal projection of the two each eye hemiretinas. This mistake often leads to strabismus associated with poor binocular vision. People with albinism have more or less important nystagmus. It appears in the first months of life. Albinism is the cause of 25% of sensory nystagmus and should be first suspected when one observe the onset of nystagmus in a child. Albinism children picturesAlbinism is responsible for 5 to 10% of visual impairment worldwide. Albinism should not be confused with the leucism, which is the opposite of melanism, but unlike albinism, does not pose a direct problem of physiology. Children that suffer of albinism are often persecuted in some countries where this disease is related to some spiritual beliefs. Albinism children should be more supported and there are some foundations out there that are concerned of albinism children life. We should help them have a normal life and should not put them at the edge of the social life. |
