        People with albinism are called albinos. They have white hair and purplish pink eyes. Their vision is worse than the one that other people have. They are prone to sunburn and are probably more often affected by skin cancer. We also find that the eyes have pink iris with blue and gray translucent.

        Albinism is a lack of pigment producing color of the skin and eyes. It is an inherited recessive autosomal. The condition is due to the lack of melanin pigment in melanocytes of skin, dander, iris and retina. There is a metabolic disorder on tyrosinase which converts tyrosine to dihydroxyphenylalanine. The skin is white throughout its range. The hair, eyebrows, eyelashes are white or straw-yellow after exposure to sunlight. How to detect albinism?

        Depigmentation that affects the skin associated with photophobia, decreased visual acuity, hypopigmentation of the retina and iris, nystagmus. The diagnosis can be done at birth if the eye signs are already visible. The occurrence of nystagmus in the first month in a very blonde child and this may be a sign of albinism.
