Albinism treatment

There is no treatment at the moment, but there are some measures to take like protecting from the sun and counseling those that are affected at a emotional level. Albinism is a genetic disease in several forms: the partial or complete albinism. The disease is characterized by a lack of pigmentation of the skin, hair, eyes, due to the absence of melanin. Currently, several genes are known to be responsible for various forms of albinism when mutated, but their functions are not yet well known. This is the case for P, MATP, OA-1, HPS-1 and CHS-1 genes. The search for mutations in these genes may contribute to understanding their function. Albinos have impaired vision and are prone to skin cancer if they are not protected from the sun.

Albinism treatment complications of the disease

In some patients the severe ocular disorders are associated with albinism. There is photophobia, that is to say that patients can not tolerate light, and have a decrease in visual acuity (low vision). In some patients there are also general symptoms such as severe bleeding tendency and recurrent infections. The main problems are those affecting the skin and eyes. The skin presents an extreme sensitivity to sun exposure. Likely to develop skin cancer, it shows at times (particularly among African albino) skin infections. The eyes show a decrease in visual acuity, photophobia, nystagmus and uncorrectable myopia with glasses.

What is the cause of albinism and why some people are born albino?

Depigmentation of hair is due to deficiency in the upper hair bulb. The hair color varies according to type of albinism. The hair may be white, beige, pink, white, pink, cream, red, brown, red mahogany or blonde at birth and become yellow, white metal, dark yellow, cream, brown, red, bronze, copper, black or brown normal. The hair may also remain white throughout life.

Complete albinism

It consists of universal and complete depigmentation of the skin, hair and even eyes. Albinos are very sensitive to sunlight and UVR, their skin burns easily because the color guard is absent. Eyes show the lack of pigment in the iris and choroid, thus phobia and photo nystagmus are common among them. Albinos can be physically and mentally backward. Albinism is a disorder often hereditary. There is no satisfactory treatment yet found. One can use anti-actinic creams and appropriate clothing that gives commensurate protection against the sun, umbrella, etc
